APN Behavioral Healthcare LLC was founded in 2002 by Barbara Miller. The office is located in a Victorian home in Waxahachie, TX, and it is registered with the National Register of Historic Places. Ms. Miller earned a Master's of Science in Nursing, specializing in Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatry from The University Of Texas at Arlington. Ms. Miller is board certified through the American Nursing Credentialing Center. She is also an assistant professor in the University of Texas Graduate Nursing Program. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience in medication management, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and raising four children of her own.
Barbara Miller is certified with the American Nursing Credentialing Center as an Advanced Practice Nurse in Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatry with prescriptive authority.
Lindsay Whitman, MA, LPC
Ms. Whitman graduated with her Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from Sam Houston State University. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Texas A&M University. She has a wide array of mental health knowledge and experience that includes working with the elderly, adults, couples, families, adolescents, and children. She uses an eclectic approach with an emphasis on cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and motivational interviewing. Ms. Whitman utilizes tele-counseling, which can be done from the comfort of your own home or in an office at the clinic. Ms. Whitman enjoys living in the Texas countryside with her husband and one dog.
Scott Layton, PA
Mr. Layton earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Physician Assistant certificate after graduating from the Allied Health Sciences physician assistant program, at the University of Texas at Southwestern Medical Center (Dallas, TX). He then passed the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants exam, and secured his Texas state license to practice as a physician assistant. During his career, he has worked in a number of surgical specialties – general, bariatric , orthopedic, and neurosurgical. He also has extensive experience in psychiatry, having diagnosed and treated children, adolescents, and adults for a variety of psychiatric conditions. Prior to working at APN Behavioral Healthcare from 2013 onwards, he worked in psychiatry practices in Plano, Dallas, and McKinney. In 2018, he answered the “call of the wild” by moving to western CO, in part to be closer to his son, but also to enjoy outdoor activities. He enjoys working in psychiatry and he continues to see patients via telemedicine.
